Cost efficiency and feasibility assessment for HAWK Adour 151
Cost efficiency and feasibility assessment for HAWK Adour 151, for continued operation of the Red Arrows Fleet
Duration:
1 year
Scope:
Cost efficiency and feasibility assessment for HAWK Adour 151, for continued
operation of the Red Arrows Fleet
Challenge:
RT Consulting was commissioned to explore cost-saving opportunities through the reuse of retired HAWK T1 aircraft engines to support the Red Arrows fleet. With all other T1 aircraft decommissioned, the focus was on extending the operational life of the remaining fleet through a Reduce to Produce (RTP) strategy – repurposing whole engines or components for continued use.
Action:
We developed a top-level demand model, assessed engine and module availability, and analysed historical cost data to support sustainability planning through to 2030 and 2035. This work provided the MOD with a clearer view of long-term engine requirements and informed decision-making on cost-effective maintenance and reuse strategies.
£14m Savings Identified
The study identified potential savings of up to £14M over 12 years through strategic RTP activity. It also highlighted key shortfalls in engine module availability, informing future repair and supply planning.
